Manchester Ship Canal
When Manchester Ship Canal opened in January 1894 it was the largest river navigation canal in the world. Starting in Eastham and ending in Salford Quays it still allows over 8,000 ships access into Manchester from the Irish Sea each year.
The beginning of the canal being so close to home is what sparked my interest. This is my exploration and documentation of the canal from start to finish. From abandoned war fuel tanks and burnt out cars to peoples everyday workplace and back gardens. I wanted to see the spaces and people that make this 128 year old feat what it still is today.
